As Jose Sepulveda waited at the end of a line of cars to exit the Dallas North Tollway, the back end of his vehicle was rammed by a DART-contracted paratransit van. The collision happened on June 29, and just last week, Sepulveda and his wife sued the contractor, Veolia Transportation and the driver of the van, Willie Grant, for negligence in the 14th District Court.
The suit alleges Grant failed to stop as he barreled toward the traffic line, smashing into Sepulveda’s vehicle, sending it into three other cars. Dallas Fire and Rescue had to use the Jaws of Life to free Sepulveda; three weeks following the crash were spent in Parkland Memorial Hospital, which earned him the moniker “miracle man.”
Sepulveda woke up at the scene of the crash with his car’s rear license plate near his elbow, the steering wheel impaling his chest and the back seat crushing his right shoulder and hip. Sepulveda gasped for air while firefighters pried the car from around him.
The Sepulvedas are seeking damages for medical expenses, loss of earnings, mental and physical anguish, and any permanent disfigurement.
